NEWSLETTER FOR FEBRUARY 2017

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

We are excited to have Judge Rise Pichon, Attorney Alison P. Buchanan on Elimination of Bias, and Hadar Harris, Executive Director of the Northern California Innocence Project, as speakers in the coming months at our Bar Association lunches and do hope that each of you attend and create the attentive atmosphere these people deserve.

Our Board further challenges our group to go above and beyond in individual recruitment processes. For the longevity of this organization we would like to continue with the recruitment this year. Please speak with your colleagues, friends, mentors, support staff and maybe even opposing counsel, on the benefits of our organization. Our organization is only as good as our membership B and fortunately we have outstanding members. Keep in mind we want enthusiastic people to carry on this tradition, and believe in the benefit of meeting people and networking face to face. Those you speak with, tell them of our upcoming topics, or even tell them that they too can speak (keep in mind our speakers may claim up to four hours of credit for speaking B if you are interested please let us know).

Thank you, and hope to see you all at next week=s installation luncheon where Judge Rise Pichon will be performing the swearing in.

MCLE - 2017 COMPLIANCE REPORTING DEADLINE

Please make a note of the following important information the Association received concerning the 2017 MCLE Compliance Reporting Deadline:

From: The State Bar of California B MCLE Regulation Unit

Subject: 2017 MCLE Compliance Reporting Deadline Clarification

Dear MCLE Provider, SUNNYVALE-CUPERTINO BAR ASSOCIATION:

Due to a delayed start to our billing and compliance cycle, the Board of Trustees approved the MCLE reporting deadline for this year only as March 1st. MCLE Group 3 attorneys (last names N-Z) who are reporting compliance for the 2/1/2014-1/31/2017 compliance period must complete and report the education due no later than March 1, 2017 in order to avoid a $75 noncompliance fee. Please make sure that any MCLE marketing materials that include the reporting deadline correctly characterize this grace period.

Notwithstanding the forgoing, the next Group 3 MCLE compliance period formally starts February 1, 2017, therefore, any course taken in February may be used for the 2017 or the 2020 period, but not both. Attorneys should be reminded to keep careful records in order to avoid double-counting any hours earned in February.

If you receive compliance questions from a California attorney, please feel free to refer them to the State Bar at 1-888-800-3400 or MCLE@calbar.ca.gov.

We will continue to keep you updated on any changes or issues that affect the MCLE program.

Thank you.

MCLE Regulation Unit, The State Bar of California | 180 Howard St. | San Francisco, CA 94105415-538-2126 | Providers@calbar.ca.gov
